Adults with low bone mass | 1500mg |
Foods high in calcium include:
- Milk
- Yoghurt
- Cheese
- Canned salmon (with bones)
- Almonds
Calcium supplements may need to be considered, however, check with your doctor first. These supplements are available in different forms, however it is necessary to take into account the amount of elemental calcium instead of the total amount of calcium present. The different forms are:
- Calcium carbonate - highest amount of elemental calcium
- Calcium citrate - highly soluble so easily absorbed
- Calcium phosphate
